See how to assemble a legacy Enviolo Automatic (gen1 or gen2) on a rear wheel, followed by the assembly on the bike frame.
Compatibility
This guide is for legacy Enviolo Automatic and Automatic+, NuVinci Harmony and H|Sync interfaces, for assembly on hubs with 44T spline nuts.
Spline nut
Spline nut compatibility
The legacy Enviolo Automatic or Harmony only has a 44 Teeth spline nut option – different from the Enviolo Automatic gen3 (AutomatiQ), which supports 40T and 44T. Only 44T hubs are compatible with Automatic or Harmony (gen1 and gen2):
- City, Trekking (and legacy Enviolo CO, SP, CA, and NuVinci N360, N380, N380SE hubs)
You can find the identification of the hub interface variant at the bottom of the hub interface on the serial # sticker.
Step-by-step instructions
1 - Assemble the interface
Make sure you have a 44T spline hub
Ensure you have the correct Interface for your Enviolo or NuVinci hub. Forcing entry might damage the spline nut. Legacy Automatic or Harmony hub interfaces are only compatible with 44 teeth spline hubs.

Tools
- Scratch pen or marker
- Torque wrench with 17mm socket
Instructions
- Use the uninstalled hub interface to determine the desired orientation.
- Orientation should be forward, parallel to the chainstay with the Automatic main connector facing forward.
- Move the Automatic hub interface along the dropout to ensure clearance at different axle positions.
- Use a scratch pen or marker to mark the hub interface in the middle of the dropout.
- Remove the anti-shift retainer, if installed.
- Suspend the Automatic hub interface over the right-hand axle and align the axle flats with the marked position.
- A no-turn washer can be installed over the Automatic hub interface to align the assembly angle.
- When the assembly angle is aligned seat the Automatic hub interface fully onto the axle.
- Thread the right-hand nut, serrations facing outward, onto the axle.
- Tighten it to 8-10 Nm.
2 - Assemble the rear wheel
Exercise caution when assembling
Improper installation may result in damage to the dropout and the hub. Over-tightening may damage parts. Under-tightening can result in the axle sliding in the dropouts.
Tools
15mm wrench
Instructions
Place the rear wheel into the rear frame.
Orient the chain around the hub interface and onto the sprocket.
- Rotate the hub interface until the cable connector aligns with the chainstay.
- Make sure your chain or belt is correctly set on the front chainring so you can set the proper tension.
- Once you properly set the tension, tighten both acorn nuts with a 15mm wrench to 30-40Nm.
Finally, assemble the power cable carefully by inserting it into the hub interface.
