Sometimes hubs get stuck and the wheel doesn’t rotate properly. This article will explain how to fix this problem on 135mm solid axle hub, with solutions for either AUTOMATiQ (AHI) or Manual (MHI) hub interfaces.
Backward compatibility
This guide is compatible with legacy 135mm solid axle hubs (Commercial/CO, Sportive/SP, Cargo/CA, N360, N380, N380SE).
Problem diagnosis
Solution
AutomatiQ
Bikes with an AUTOMATiQ hub interface (AHI):
- Disassemble the AHI-equipped wheel from the bike frame.
- Disassemble the AUTOMATiQ hub interface from the wheel.
-
Unblock the hub using combination pliers.

Manual
Bikes with a Manual hub interface (MHI):

- Disassemble the AUTOMATiQ hub interface from the wheel.
-
Unblock using combination pliers.

Unblock instructions
- Hold the wheel in place using one hand.
- With your other hand, use combination pliers to hold the shift driver.
- The shift driver part is the spline nut closest to the hub (see photo below).
- Be very careful not to damage the shift driver.
- Spin the wheel clockwise.
- At the same time as the wheel is spinning, carefully rotate the shift driver using the combination pliers:
- Stuck in high gear - rotate the shift driver clockwise.
- Stuck in low gear - rotate the shift driver counter-clockwise.
Be careful when unblocking the hub
While using the pliers, be careful not to damage the shift driver. Otherwise, it will be impossible to mount the hub interface later. The shift driver is one of the two splined nuts, the one that is closest to the hub.
Your wheel is ready to go
If you successfully follow the steps above, then the hub should be unblocked and the bicycle should be riding smoothly again.
