Sometimes hubs get stuck and the wheel doesn’t rotate properly. This article will explain how to fix this problem on 135mm solid axle hub, with solutions for either AUTOMATiQ (AHI) or Manual (MHI) hub interfaces.

Backward compatibility

This guide is compatible with legacy 135mm solid axle hubs (Commercial/CO, Sportive/SP, Cargo/CA, N360, N380, N380SE).

Problem

Upon inspection, you detect one of the following:

• The hub or wheel is blocked, and does not spin or rotate properly.
• The CVP seems to be locked in mid-range or the ratio range seems to be limited.
• The hub seems locked up at either full overdrive (high ratio) or full underdrive (low ratio).

Solution

Check where the hub is stuck

Check where the hub is stuck. For a hub locked in mid-range:

• If the hub is within 2 years of age, return the hub using the warranty request form. Enviolo hubs are closed containers and need to be sent back for closer inspection.

For a hub locked in full overdrive or full underdrive.

• You will need to unblock the hub with the help of combination pliers. The procedure depends on the transmission system you have - Automatic or Manual. Follow the steps below depending on which system you have:

For a hub locked in full overdrive or full underdrive:

Automatic shifting system

1. Disassemble the AutomatiQ-equipped wheel from the bike frame.
2. Disassemble the AutomatiQ hub interface from the wheel.
3. Unblock the hub using combination pliers.

Using pliers to unblock the hub

Instructions

1. Hold the wheel in place using one hand.
2. With your other hand, use combination pliers to hold the shift driver.
   • The shift driver part is the spline nut closest to the hub (see photo below).
   • Be very careful not to damage the shift driver.
3. Spin the wheel clockwise.
4. At the same time as the wheel is spinning, carefully rotate the shift driver using the combination pliers:
   • Stuck in high gear - rotate the shift driver clockwise.
   • Stuck in low gear - rotate the shift driver counter-clockwise.

Be careful when unblocking the hub

While using the pliers, be careful not to damage the shift driver. Otherwise, it will be impossible to mount the hub interface later. The shift driver is one of the two splined nuts, the one that is closest to the hub.

If the problem persists (manual shifting)

If the problem persists after following all the above steps, and you have a Manual hub interface (MHI), then the problem might be in the manual controller, cabling, or MHI hardware instead of the hub. In that case, we recommend following this guide:
