This guide explains how to assemble a rear wheel with a Manual hub interface and modular axle hub onto a 148mm bike frame.
Backward compatibility
This guide is compatible with legacy enviolo and NuVinci 148mm modular axle hubs.
Exercise caution when assembling
Improper installation may result in damage to the dropout and the hub. Over-tightening may damage parts. Under-tightening can result in the axle sliding in the dropouts.

Tools
- 15mm wrench
- Torque wrench
- 15mm long socket
- 17mm long socket (only for Extreme hub)
- Allen key 5mm
- Marker pen (white)
- Modular mounting hardware kit
Assembly instructions
- Place the rear wheel into the rear frame, making sure not to obstruct shift cables.
- Place the extra disk brake spacer adapter over the hub before placing the disk rotor.
- The 148mm hub wheels require an extra spacer adapter between the hub and disk brake rotor, and it’s included in the modular mounting hardware kit.
- Place the disc brake rotor over the spacer, and tighten using the longer bolts supplied in the modular mounting kit.
- Tighten the rotor bolts as specified by the brake rotor manufacturer.
- For rim and roller brake applications, connect the rear brake according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Tighten the rotor bolts as specified by the brake rotor manufacturer.
- Slide the torque arm onto the axle and secure it with a snap ring.
- Orient the torque arm at an angle that it can slide into the boss on the brake adapter or dropout
- Test fit the wheel on the bike frame and determine the axle plate (torque arm) assembly position using a marker pen:
- The axle plate must be correctly seated on the bike frame.
- The Manual hub interface must be correctly seated and without interfering with the belt or frame.
- The cable housing must fit the Manual hub interface in a straight line.
- When everything is correctly aligned, mark the torque adapter and axle plate with the marker pen.
- Take the wheel out and assemble the axle plate (torque arm) on the torque adapter:
- Position the two pieces with pen markings as closely aligned as possible.
- Assemble all screws not too tightly at first, and then tighten them to 2.5-3Nm at the end.
- If your right side dropout is threaded, assemble the right-hand adapter.
- Assemble the rear wheel onto the bike frame.
- Remember that the axle plate must be correctly seated and the Manual hub interface must not interfere with the belt or frame.
- Assemble the left-hand and right-hand adapters and the M6 axle bolts, one on each side.
- On the right side, ensure the spring washer is positioned between the hub interface and the adapter.
- Secure the axle, tightening the M6 axle bolts to 10-15Nm.
Your wheel is assembled
If you follow the steps above, your wheel is now assembled on the bike. Next, you may want to assemble the controller or the cables. Once that is also done, your bike is ready to go.
