Step-by-step instructions
The following instructions will help you, from end to end, how to use the Update box.
Video instructions
1 - Download the AHI configuration
- Go to automatiq.enviolo.com.
- Login with Product Manager user type credentials.
- Go to the AHI Configuration tab.
- Open one AHI Configuration.
- Download AHI Configuration by pressing the "EXPORT TO JSON" button.
- Give a name to the AHI configuration and save it in a location that you will remember, you will need it for later.
Now you should have a file with the AHI configuration name of your choice and .json extension.
When naming an AHI configuration
- When assigning the name to the AHI configuration please only use alphanumeric characters (letters A -Z and numbers 0-9) in addition don’t use symbols like "%", "$", or space between different words. To separate words please use underscore "_".
- Please do not open .JSON file in which the AHI configuration is stored! If the file was opened please delete it and download the AHI configuration again.
2 - Download AHI firmware
- The latest AHI firmware file is always distributed directly via email.
- AHI firmware is always delivered in a .zip package.
- AHI firmware can not be downloaded from automatiq.enviolo.com.
- Open the email with the latest firmware file.
- Download the firmware .ZIP file and save it in a location that you will remember, you will need it for later. You now have a .ZIP file with AHI firmware.
When uploading the AUTOMATiQ firmware file
- Please do not extract the .ZIP package in which the firmware file is stored.
- If the .zip file is opened, we strongly recommend to delete since it may not work. Please download it again from your mail.

3 - Prepare a USB stick
- Format the USB memory stick to make sure it is empty. No files or folders should be on the USB stick.
- Make sure that the USB stick is formatted to FAT32 or NTFS standard.
- Locate the downloaded AHI configuration and the firmware file.
- Copy the AHI configuration and firmware file to an empty USB stick.
- OPTIONAL: Put a sticker with the AHI configuration name and Firmware version so it's easy to differentiate between a couple of different AHI configurations. If the AHI configuration or firmware file on the USB stick changes, don’t forget to replace the sticker with a different one.
When creating a USB stick
Please ensure that only one AHI Configuration file and only one AHI firmware file are on the USB Stick.
4 - Flash the configurations using the Update box
- Power on the Update box.
- Plug in a USB stick with the correct AHI configuration and firmware version.
- Connect AHI units.
- Wait until the LED next to the START button starts blinking Green.
-
Press the START button to start the flashing process. The Update box LEDs will light up indicating the status of every connected AHI unit:
- Blinking yellow indicates that the flashing process is in progress.
- Green indicates that the flashing was successful.
- Red indicates that the flashing was not successful.
- Once done, disconnect AHI units.
- You can now repeat the process and connect fresh AHI units.
Requirements
Compatibility requirements
- The AHI unit running V12 or newer firmware is compatible with the Update box regardless if it is flashed with AHI configuration.
- The AHI unit that is not configured should always be updated to the newest firmware to ensure compatibility with any AHI configuration
- Note that previously configured AHI units that are not running V12 or newer firmware are not compatible with the Update box.
Firmware version | |||
---|---|---|---|
V11/R47 or newer |
V12/R48 or older |
||
AHI configuration flashed | No | Compatible | Compatible |
Yes | Not compatible | Compatible | |
CAN protocol set to NONE | Yes | Not compatible | Not compatible |
Warning
Please note that if the AHI configuration has the CAN protocol set to NONE then the Update box will not be able to communicate with AHI anymore because the CAN protocol is deactivated. In order to make sure that AHI can be flashed with different AHI configurations multiple times please have the CAN protocol set to one of the other options (e.g. enviolo, custom, Bosch, Bafang, etc.).
NOTE:
Flashing time might be different per AHI device and some devices may require longer flashing time. Please pay attention to the Status LEDs to understand if the flashing is ongoing, successful, or failed.
Charger requirements
The update box is charged over a USB type C connector located on the bottom of the enclosure. Any USB type C charger for a smartphone device or laptop device that can provide the below requirements is compatible with the Update box.
Voltage | 5 V |
Minimum current | 2.0 A |
Minimum power | 10.0 W |
Plug type | USB type C |
Charging an Update box with a charger that has a lower specification than the above could result in unexpected Update box behavior especially if the Update box is being used and charged at the same time.
NOTE
The charger is not sold with an Update box. Please source the charger separately.
You're all set
